Note: a video of this event is now posted on that page.
Trident Gallery is very grateful to art writer Charles Giuliano for writing an illuminating essay based on interviews with Barzaghi. It focuses on the 15-drawing cycle Stoning Charlotte Bronte while offering fascinating insight into all of Barzaghi’s art.
Gabrielle Barzaghi turns lived experience into drawings. Following the discovery of a story, object, scene, or work of art which captures her imagination, she feels compelled to make a drawing. The drawing once begun becomes a source of further discoveries, a path she follows, receptive to the vines of memories, the influences of the moment, and the fruit of many years of looking and drawing. Her best drawings are inspired, surprising, unequivocally original works of art, the results of a seasoned artistic process remarkable for its openness to risks, and for the depth of the beauty at which it arrives. Ten new drawings and a major new work, a cycle of 15 drawings, will be on view and affirm the artist’s power to embrace complexity with aesthetic harmony, to portray the entanglement of beauty and understanding.
