Winston Boyer
As an artist, Boyer has resisted pressures to define himself narrowly as a photographer and to brand himself by committing to the production of recognizable, easily accessible series, preferring to exercise the full range of his creativity and to develop a more complete expression of his artistic vision. Nevertheless, several compelling series have emerged organically from his work, including The Views, the Mask Series, and the Ocean Series, the subject of Boyer’s first solo exhibition at Matthew Swift Gallery in 2016.

An ongoing series of photographs of ocean horizons, often colorful, often abstract and recalling Mark Rothko's "multi-forms."

An ongoing series of photographs of a pair of French wire-mesh theatrical masks, through which Boyer explores psychological, mythological, and religious themes with a particular awareness of art history.

Panoramic photographs rendered with a novel convention of perspective which shifts the peripheral toward the center of vision.

An ongoing series of photographs of roads in many locations in the US and abroad. An early compilation was published as American Roads (Bulfinch Press, 1989).
