Painting and Photography
A Conversation with Winston Boyer
June 12, 2016 · 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm
- This event has passed.
Early in photographer Winston Boyer’s career, when the art of photography was less established and respected as a separate discipline within the visual arts, and before the advent of digital printing opened up color printing to a much wider population of artists and correspondingly broad approaches, many photographers cultivated the independence of photography and avoided the influences and models of other visual arts.
Going against the grain from the outset of his career, Boyer has embraced all the visual arts as a photographer’s heritage, creative matrix and inspiration. Boyer will describe his career-long engagement with sculpture, architecture, cinema, and particularly with painting in a visual presentation entitled “Painting and Photography” on Sunday, June 12, at 4pm at Trident Gallery, during his solo exhibition Ocean. A discussion period will follow the presentation. Afterward, guests are invited to stay for light refreshments and informal conversation. This event is free and open to the public.
The slides Boyer used during his presentation are available to view in the gallery. Video with the artist’s commentary will be published when post-processing is completed.
